How to Make a Decorative Letter Bow Hanger

Posted by The Hair Bow Co. on May 17th 2012

As promised, we are going to continue giving you easy tutorials for DIY bow storage. Bows are cute so they should be displayed, not hidden in a drawer, but figuring out how and where to hang them is often difficult.

This tutorial is for a custom decorative letter. These are perfect for nurseries and little girl bedrooms. They can be completely custom, from the letter you choose, the paper you like, to the ribbon you attach.

Your first step is to gather your supplies. You'll need a wooden letter, Mod Podge, rubber cement, two paint brushes or sponge brushes, a piece of decorative scrapbook paper, scissors, a pen or pencil, ribbon.

Turn paper upside down and lay the wooden letter on top, also upside down. Trace the letter using a pencil, try to be as accurate as possible. Carefully cut the paper out.

Spread rubber cement on the top side of the wooden letter. Align paper and smooth evenly on top of the letter making sure to remove all air bubbles.

Allow the letter to dry overnight. For the best results, spread Mod Podge over the top of the paper to seal and protect the surface. However, do not use Mod Podge on embellished papers such as glitter paper or velvet paper. Our paper has glitter on it so we skipped this step.

Hold your letter up and decide how long your ribbon strands need to be, ours are about two feet. We like the look of overlapping ribbon, so we chose some zebra 1 1/2" and lime green 7/8" ribbon and cut them to size. Glue the two lengths of ribbon together at the top.

Attach the ribbon to the back of the letter using a touch of glue or a staple gun, whatever you're most comfortable with. We used our glue gun because we always have it around!

You can hang your letter using the pre-made hole on the back of the wood, or attach a loop of ribbon at the top for a more decorative look.

Simple, adorable, and functional... the perfect combination!
