Princess Tutu Dress Costume

If a completely custom tutu dress like the one on our blog last week seems a little daunting or you just don't have much crafting time on your hands, this tutorial will be a life saver!

Supplies Needed:

Tutu dress
1 spool of 7/8" ribbon
An original hair bow

Tulle

Wand

Tiara

Glue gun or fabric glue

Lay your tutu dress flat on the table. In order to create the correct spacing for your lace up top, use some pencils or glue sticks to mark it. You'll need to offset the left and right sides. I believe we left about 6 rows between holes.

Either cut a long length of ribbon, or leave it attached to the spool. You don't rant to run out! Start at the top and begin threading your ribbon through the holes, following your glue sticks to ensure proper spacing.

Now that you laced it all the way down, go back up the back. The placement should be easier to find since you can line it up with the other ribbon.

Thread the ribbon back through the crochet headband so that the ends are on the inside of the outfit. Carefully glue the ends down and cut off the excess.

Get a coordinating bow and clip it to the top. You could use any bow, or even tie your own with the grosgrain ribbon, but we like the classic look of the original hair bow. (Plus, it clips right on and that is EASY!)

Measure out a length of tulle. It's best to measure your daughter to be sure you are making straps that will fit her. However, if you make them too long, you can spread the tulle to give her an off-the-shoulder strap look!

You'll need to twist the end of the tulle a bit so it will fit into the hole of the crochet headband.

Tie a small knot to hold it in place, then do the same to attach it to the back. Trim some of the excess tulle. Now you have straps!

Add a wand and a tiara, and your little munchkin will be transformed into a princess right before your eyes! Does she want to be a fairy princess? Throw on an adorable (and affordable) pair of fairy wings!

You can always design the dress to have the lacing go up the back and then embellish the front with a flower. Choose your own colors and make it your own!
